Every August, on the Saturday closest to the festivity of Sant Llorenç, the bay of Altea becomes the scene of one of the most impressive pyrotechnic shows in the Mediterranean: the Castell de l'Olla. This unique event brings together thousands of people who come to the coast to enjoy a magical night where the sea and gunpowder come together in perfect harmony. In 2025, it will take place on Saturday, August 9 at 11:59 p.m.
What makes Castell de l'Olla special is that the fireworks are launched from platforms installed in the sea, creating a spectacular reflection on the water and an unforgettable visual experience. The natural environment of the beach, with the silhouette of the old town of Altea in the background, makes this moment truly magical.
This Altea wonder has more than 35 years of history, and increasingly, it brings together different boats in the bay of Altea to be able to contemplate the spectacle in all its splendor.
The event, which has grown over the years, was born from a tribute to the local pyrotechnician Blas Aznar, "Uncle Blai, the rocketer", who died years ago. A special fireworks display was launched in his honour and since then, he has been recognised for his quality, creativity and commitment to the environment, respecting the environment and committing to a sustainable organisation.
The Castell de l'Olla is recognized with the distinction of the Tourism Merit Award, in the gold category of the 1999 edition, awarded by the Provincial Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca and in 2007, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Community by the Generalitat Valenciana.
It has a Facebook group, where you can learn first-hand about all the news and news regarding this wonderful pyrotechnic show.
In 2016, UNESCO favoured the Castillo de la Olla in its 30th edition, considering "the most important aquatic fireworks of the Mare Nostrum".
