Until not long ago, news, beliefs, desires, the way of understanding the world, were transmitted orally, grandmothers to grandchildren, parents to daughters. This is how most stories were born and are born, which use myths and imaginary characters to reinterpret the world that surrounds the one who tells the story.Modern media, especially television and new technologies, have replaced these traditions. We live in the world of the image. Although for some years now there has been a recovery of the narrator or storyteller as heir to the ancestral art of telling stories. The ENCONTES Festival is a proposal that was born from our concern, as storytellers, to collaborate in the recovery of this millenary tradition. For this we wanted to turn Altea, for a few days in the year, into the town of stories, filling its squares and corners with orality. We wanted to take the stories out in the street, in the squares, to bring them closer to the people, carrying out oral storytelling shows and complementary activities for all types of audiences and of all ages, from the children of the schools to the elderly of the Residence for the Elderly.
